Here are three nuggets for navigating hard times:
1. Treasure the tough times: They have lessons, and they build our character.
“And patient endurance will refine our character, and proven character leads us back to hope” (Romans 5:4 TPT).
Additional Scripture: James 1:2-4
In the midst of a tough time, it’s natural for us to want to be rescued, to want the pain to go away, to want provision, to feel better, and to want the feel-good emotions. It is normal, and it is human! King David, a man after God’s own heart, constantly made his feelings known to God, but he never allowed his feelings to keep him stuck. After coming to terms with what he felt, he was able to move forward. He allowed the tough times to make him more dependent on God, more humble, more forgiving and a better warrior, to name a few.
2. Speak life into yourself and into the lives of others.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits” (Proverbs 18:21 ESV).
Additional Scripture: Ephesians 4:29
In moving forward (even when we don’t feel we are), it is important to speak life about ourselves, to ourselves, to others, or about others. It is important to realize that what we say is released into the spirit realm and is either a weapon against us or a covering over us!
3. Know that God is always working in us.
“I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]” (Philippians 1:6 AMP).
Additional Scripture: Romans 8:28
We must be aware of God's presence around us and allow His Spirit to convict us. When we allow ourselves to be aware of His presence (even without feeling it) and allow His conviction, we change our perspective. If you’re going through a tough time this week, fill the atmosphere of your house with praise/worship (even if you have to blast Tasha Cobbs’ version of Way Maker on repeat) and gratitude toward God. Watch as He does His work IN you. Your circumstance may not change immediately, but your perspective will!
