In 1998, after over 10 years of receiving excellent performance appraisals annually, I was terminated from my job after being accused of belonging to a particular political party. It was a confusing and discouraging time, especially since I was never associated with any political party. In my mind, I questioned over and over, Why me? But years later, I now realize that because of that detour in my life, I found a personal relationship with Jesus.
I learned that when someone misjudges or mistreats me, if I focus on me, I’m going to be discouraged and tempted to give up. The difficulty was not meant to destroy me but to catapult me into God’s plan for my life as an evangelist.
The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 4:5, “Our message is not about ourselves. It is about Jesus Christ as the Lord. We are…servants for his sake” (GW). God put us on this earth, and He has a message He wants to declare to the world through us. But our life message is not about us. It’s about Jesus Christ.
