Trust in His Spiritual Presence

Trust in His Spiritual Presence

Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. – John 14:19

A popular quote attributed to American author Simon Sinek  says, “The strength of your community is not when the leader is present, but when the leader is absent.” If even a man in his own wisdom recognizes this,  how much more should we as Christians trust in Jesus’ leadership over our lives.

Jesus empowered His disciples before leaving earth and returning to heaven. He reassured them that although they would no longer have His physical presence, His spiritual presence would always remain (John 14:15-19). He would live through them, and that promise still applies to us today.

Sometimes when we face hardships, we become so overwhelmed, we feel like Jesus has abandoned us. We can't sense Him, and we assume He’s not there. But despite our feelings, He is still present. His Spirit surrounds us.

We can take comfort in His reassurance  that “Because I live, you also will live.” He also said in John 14:12, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

His Spirit empowers us to do great things: to overcome pain, sorrow, trials, temptations, and every scheme of the enemy. We just have to believe.

Reflect: Are you or someone close to you in a season of feeling completely alone–like Jesus has stepped away from your situation? What past experiences can you recall to help you remember that His Spirit is always present?
