How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God! —1 John 3:1

When I was a child, each summer I visited my mom's side of the family in Honduras, about two hours from Belize by ferry. Being a daddy’s girl, this made me sad because I would not be able to see him for two months. On one trip, I was ready to go home by the end of July. I pleaded over the phone, “Daddy, I miss you. Please send for me!” My dad arranged for a chaperone to accompany me on the ferry, and my brother dropped me off for departure. When we approached the Big Creek Port, I spotted Dad on the dock. He had the biggest smile on his face, anxiously awaiting my arrival. As soon as they docked the ferry, I dashed into his arms and gave him a big hug and a kiss.
My dad was willing to go to great lengths to get me home. Imagine what our Father God did to bring us back to him and how excited he gets when we finally come home. 1 John 3:1 says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
He sent his Son to save us all—to make us his children and bring us home to him.
Reflect: How does it feel to know that you are a child of God? What difference does it make to know that you can always run to Him?
Prayer Starter:
Thank you, Lord, that I can always run to you and that you are always there to welcome me with open arms.
