My mom got me the cutest pink toothbrush one day when I was about nine years old. Of course, it wasn’t my first toothbrush, but this one was especially pretty. Its hot pink color and stout, kid-sized handle grabbed my attention as soon as I saw it at the grocery store. I was so captivated by the cuteness of this new toothbrush that my imagination went wild. Tootie (yes, I also named it) became a doll for the day. I remember gently handling it and even going as far as making a bed for it out of a pink wash rag and tucking it into its little bed. What the average person would have seen as a basic tool was the most beautiful thing in my eyes.
This reminds me of how God sees us. While we may think we are just ordinary people, He sees us as precious and special. “The Lord takes delight in his people” (Psalm 149:4 NIV), and He loves us dearly. We don’t need to have special features for Him to cherish us. He loves us just because. God did not just make us to be fillers in His universe; He intentionally made each of us with a purpose.
Sometimes it can be easy to question why God would cherish us. Don’t give in to those thoughts. God loves you because He is love, and the very things you see as ordinary can be used to fulfill His purpose for your life. You will never be just an ordinary person to God; He thinks you’re amazing.
