When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.—Isaiah 43:2a

“I can’t do this!” I said to myself as I took my first step onto the shaky hammock bridge. Below, the hungry Belize River seemed ready to swallow me whole. I had never crossed a hammock bridge before and, honestly, I wanted to quit—let my friend continue on without me. My role on our team was to lead a small group of high schoolers in a portion of a ministry event our group was participating in. But we were about to be late. If I wanted to do my part, I had no choice but to cross that bridge. In desperation, I called on God for help, declaring Scripture out loud with every shaky step I took. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I was on the other side of the bridge.
God’s Word says in Isaiah 43:2-3, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you: and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you pass through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” Indeed, we have a Father to call on when we feel we are in danger; and he always shows up. He is our strength when we are weak.
There may be something in your life that scares you right now. You may be dealing with a health or family situation. Or maybe you need to make a life-changing decision. You might feel like the entire weight is on your shoulders. But we don’t have to face our fears and difficulties alone. God is always there to guide, comfort, and protect us, whether the situation is big or small.
Reflect: What are you fearful of? Are you attempting to battle it on your own, or have you asked the Lord to help you through it?
Prayer Starter:
