The Kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into…flour until it worked all through the dough. —Matthew 13: 33

Baking is considered an art: creativity and imagination play a major role in the process. But it also involves a lot of science. Take bread-making, for example. To achieve that soft, fluffy texture, a chemical reaction needs to occur. That process usually requires a catalyst—a substance that facilitates or speeds up a reaction. Yeast, along with sugar and warm water, work as a catalyst to create the perfect rise in that melt-in-your-mouth goodness we love so much.
Life is a little like bread-making; there are various processes and experiences we need to go through. But if we go about life on our own, outside of God’s kingdom, we inevitably fail to rise to the levels God intends for us to reach. Jesus said that “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough” (Matthew 13:33). God’s presence in us is our life’s catalyst. Without His power, through his Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, no matter how much we try, we will never be able to truy succeed in life.
When we fully open up our hearts to Him and allow Him to work in every part of our lives, He does “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). And he never stops. He continuously shows up for us and blesses us in ways we never knew were possible.
Reflect: Is there something in your life that you are trying to do without God’s help? How can you become more open to letting more of Him in?
