As the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each, in this manner let him walk. — 1 Corinthians 7:17 (NASB)

Summer break from school usually means going home, spending time with family, and enjoying the people we have missed. After completing my first year at Bible College, that was exactly what I planned to do. I longed to see my children and grandchildren because time with them is something I treasure deeply, second only to my time with God.

Yet, beneath that desire to go home, there was another desire—a deeper prompting to stay and serve. Beyond the pull of home, I sensed that gentle voice of the Holy Spirit saying, “Stay.” I believed God was asking me to remain at the college, and I chose to obey.

In staying, I discovered that God had purposefully planted me there for that season. He provided opportunities for spiritual growth, quiet moments in His Word, and opportunities to serve in ministry I also attended a pastor’s conference, participated in training, received valuable Bible study resources, and allowed God to work on areas of my life that needed change. He also brought clarity where there had been uncertainty about His calling. Things I would have missed had I gone home.

Sometimes faithfulness means being willing to remain where God has placed us, even when our hearts desire something else. God’s assignment may not always be where we planned to be, but His purpose is always worth obeying.

Reflect: Where has God planted you?  Are you being faithful there?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me to recognize where You have planted me and to trust that Your placement has purpose. Teach me to obey Your voice, serve where You have called me, and grow where You have placed me.
