To Whom Shall We Go?

To Whom Shall We Go?

Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. — John 6:68

I remember one afternoon when I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at my phone, wondering if I should call someone for help. The weight of what I was carrying felt too heavy, yet I scrolled through my contacts and couldn’t decide who to reach out to. Part of me worried they wouldn’t understand, and another part of me feared being a burden. So instead of asking for help, I put the phone down and tried to push through the struggle alone.

In John 6:67-69 we read of a similar kind of crossroads. Many disciples were turning away from Jesus because His teaching felt too hard to accept. Jesus looked at the twelve and asked, “You do not want to leave too, do you?” And Simon Peter responded: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

Peter and the others recognized the source of real life. They knew that what Jesus offered could not be found anywhere else. To whom else would they go?

I’ve come to realize that Jesus is likewise the only sure answer in my moments of uncertainty. When I couldn’t find the courage to reach out to others, I found Him waiting for me. He was the One who steadied me when I was weak, the One who spoke peace into my doubts, and the One who gave me the strength to keep moving forward. He alone is the source of eternal life and the source of our daily needs.

Reflect: When you face moments of uncertainty or need, to whom do you usually turn first? What steps can you take to develop the habit of turning to Jesus first?
