Empowered: having the knowledge, confidence, means, or ability to do things or make decisions for oneself.

When you are empowered it means that you have the authority to do.

TRUST: to be confident that someone is honest, fair; and reliable.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. 8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,

which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.

Psalm 56:3 – whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word) In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me ?

  • The Psalmist is encouraging himself, whenever I am afraid, I will trust in God.

1 Trusting God empowers us to overcome fear. It allows us to stand against the spirit of fear.

David was clearly in a situation that was not good. A situation where he found himself in the midst of his enemies. So he cried out or prayed to God – v1: Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; fighting all day he oppresses me. V2: my enemies would hound me all day, for there are many who fight against me, O most high.

Can you imagine what David must have been going through. Have you ever been in a place where you feel like the enemy has gotten the upper hand on you, like the enemy is mocking you. You are trying your best but all seems futile.

I believe most of us have been in such a place some time or the other.

You are wondering how long will this last, will I ever get through this, or the situation is such you are wondering if you will get through it alive?

You trust God or want to trust God in the situation but FEAR is coming upon you, FEAR was coming upon David. He had a choice to make, which will he give into, trusting God or fear.

But David knew the God he served, so his trust and confidence was in him, whenever I am afraid I will trust in you (God).

Which will you choose fear or trusting in God. Trusting in God empowers us to overcome fear.

2 Trusting God empowers us to have peace in the midst of the storm.

Mark 4: 35- 39 – A Storm arose and his disciples went into panic mode, they became fearful. What was Jesus doing, he was asleep on a pillow (isn’t that the sign of peace) with all that was going on, he could be asleep? The disciples were furious with him. Do you not care that we are perishing?

Don’t we feel that same way some times when we are going through a situation? Even though we are praying, standing on the word, coming to fellowship, worshipping, others are praying for us, it seems to us that God does not care because it would appear that He is not doing anything to help us, we wonder, God don’t you care about my situation?

Jesus already told them In v35 – Let us pass over unto the other side. Meaning, we will go over on the other side. That was a definite word. He never promise that in going over on the other side it will not be challenging, that the storms won’t come, that we will not be tested?

John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world”. But he said we will go over on the other side. Who will you believe or what will you believe? The obstacles before you, the taunt of the enemy? Or God?

John 14:27- Jesus speaking to His disciples. My peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Isaiah 26:3 – Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trust in You.

3 Trusting God empowers us to be strong in the midst of adverse circumstances.

1 Samuel 30:6 But David strengthened himself in the Lord His God. Ziglag was burnt to the ground and all the men’s wives and children, including David’s two wives and children were taken.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed   for I am your God, I will strengthen you, yes I will keep you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 12: 2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

4 Trusting in God empowers us to walk in the authority God has given me.

Psalm 91:13 – You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample under foot.

Matthew 17:20- if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

That was what Jesus was teaching His disciples in Mark 4, in V 39- it said, He arose and rebuke to the wind and said unto the sea Peace be still.

How do I develop this trust in God my Father?

As I mentioned earlier, trusting comes by developing a relationship with someone – you get to know that person. When you get to know them, which come by spending time with that person. You get to know their habits, their likes and dislikes, their behavior, their character, you make a choice if you can trust that person or not.

John 3:16 – For God so love the world that he gave…

Do you believe that? Then surrender your life to Him! This is where the relationship with God starts.

When you have done that or for those of us who have already done so, we must star to get to know Him.

Now I must start by building that relationship. That comes with a desire to get closer to God, to get to know Him more, who He really is, His attributes, His character. So how do I start this relationship?

  • faith cometh by hearing and hearing the word – Romans 10:17
  • Be determine to spend time with him. Dwelling in His presence.
  • James 4:8 – draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
  • James 1:22 – Be a doer of the word not only a hearer

Spend time in prayer. Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17. Prayer is a two way conversation. Jesus always spent tie in prayer, all night in the mountains .

Jesus always spent time in prayer – all night in the mountains. – John 8:28–29

Seek Him – Jeremiah 29:13 – And ye shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.

Job 52:5 I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you.

Now I have a revelation of You. The questions God put to Job made Him realized who God really is.

When we get a revelation of who God is, we will trust Him fully in all situation.

What are we trusting in?

In God Himself – His love, His mercy, His grace, His justice, that He is all knowing, all sufficient, He is our shelter from every storm, He is our refuge and strength, our very present help in time of need, His grace –  We are trusting in God our Father, who is righteous and just in all His ways.

Psalms 32:8 – NLT – I will guide you along the best pathway for your life, I will advise you and watch over you.

Ultimate empowerment is putting our trust in God.
